Overview
I can provide you with the bar code for the GTIN (global trade item number) of your product.
I have supplied bar codes to a number of businesses and organisations, including the Department of Conservation (for an example see page 11 of the Farewell Spit and Puponga Farm Park brochure (PDF 1.2 MB)).
Bar code number (GTIN)
To obtain the actual bar code number (global trade item number GTIN) you need to register with the organisation representing GS1 in your country: GS1 International, GS1 New Zealand.
The last digit of the GTIN is a computer check digit to make sure the bar code is correctly composed. My software automatically calculates the check digit of your GTIN. You may also calculate the check digit at GS1 New Zealand.
Bar code types
The types of bar code I can create include EAN‑13, UPC‑A, EAN‑8, UPC‑E, ISBN, ISSN, with or without the optional light margin indicator(s).

EAN‑13 with add‑on bar code sample (PDF 12 kB)
Bar code dimensions
While the most popular size is a magnification factor of 80%, you can choose a magnification factor that suits your application/product. The available magnification factors range from 80% to 200% (in steps of 5%).

EAN‑13 bar code sample with a magnification factor of 100% (PDF 7 kB)
EAN‑13 bar code sample with a magnification factor of 200% (PDF 7 kB)
Bar code colours
I supply single colour bar codes only (black as part of the CMYK colour model). You or your graphic designer may change the bar code colour to your requirements. However, because scanners use red light to scan bar codes, only certain colour combinations can be used. For more information consult with GS1.
File format
The bar code consists of vector graphics and is supplied as a PDF file. Upon request I can also supply the bar code as an EPS, Adobe® Illustrator® or CorelDRAW® file.
Delivery
Bar codes are supplied by email or, if you prefer, as a download from my website www.skylark.co.nz.
Cost
For a single bar code I charge NZD 35.00 (excl GST). For a series of bar codes I offer a discount depending on the number of bar codes.
How to order a bar code
To order a bar code please send me an email or fill in my contact form with your bar code requirements.
Disclaimer
Any supplied bar code adheres to the standards issued by GS1. However, I, Markus Baumann of Skylark Productions, do not accept liability of any sort in relation to the applied/printed bar code. Before you print any bar code, always submit it to GS1 for verification first.
